FIELD CARE GAME HEADS: Leave more hide then needed for the type of mount you want. For shoulder mounts, cut hide back behind the front legs. Bring in whole hide if possible DO NOT: Cut the throat DO NOT: Split to far up the chest DO NOT: Place fresh hide in plastic bag. Heat generated will cause the hide to spoil, and cause hair to slip.
If you can't bring hide in for a few days, then place in a plastic bag and freeze. If you intend to keep frozen foran extended period of time, make sure bag is air tight around the antlers to prevent from getting freezer burn.
If freezing the hide is impossible and you can't bring it in for a few days, salt the flesh side of the hide heavily, roll up hide, place in a cloth bag, and keep in a cool place.
FULL BODY MOUNTS: DO NOT GUT THE ANIMAL. There will be an additional charge for sewing. Freeze the animal whole or bring in as soon as possible.
BUGGING SKULLS: Your skull is cleaned with the use of thousands of beetles. They are able to accessthe smallest cracks and crevasses to remove only the flesh, this leaves all the perfect details of the nose and other small features that boiling takes away. The skull is then degreased and whitened. At the height of hunting season and the production of the bugs some heads may take up to six months but most can be returned within three months. Heads should be kept fresh and frozen for best results, if not most can be cleaned to a quality finish. Skulls should be skinned and vertebrae removed along with tongue and excess flesh. This will also save money in shipping and reduce the chance of leakage in shipping .

CONDITION OF ACCEPTANCE: We have no control over any hide prior to receiving it for tanning and/or mounting. Many factors have a definite effect on the final results of tanning, such as primeness, time of year, climatic conditions, and the care given in the field when it was killed. Occasionally, a skin will not tan or goes to pieces in the tanning bath due to improper handling in the field or some defect in the hide. For these reasons, we cannot assume any responsibility or offer any guarantee of the tanning of any hide, including hides to be used for mounting.
